Sounds like a case of miscommunication by some parties involved, but I hope this doesn't ruin it for the rest of us.

Could be a contractor having a bad day and overstepping bounds. Maybe they don't want people having photos of things like them pouring the Caroline stop incorrectly, or having to cut it and repour. Could also be troubling for them were they ever to say that they did X on day Y, and then there's a photo on day Y showing X as having been done. Anything that might contradict all the accounting for how this gets done could be touchy, especially if the agreement says that any savings have to be split between GrandLinq and the RoW (ergo don't let any photos out showing that money was saved on part Z, so we can keep full savings).

It likely was someone having a bad day. You are not restricted in any way from filming/shooting while standing in a public place, and nobody has a reasonable expectation of privacy. If the person is standing in the construction zone the most they can do is ask/make them leave the zone and stand in a public, non-construction spot. Most people don't actually know the details of the law and think you can't photograph them which is incorrect. From personal experience police officers can also be oblivious to this adn even (illegally) obstruct your right to take photos if they want, which is another argument

Not being legally prohibited from taking photos doesn't exactly equal having the right to take unobstructed photos.

I recall once about 15 years ago, I was at a theme park (SixFlags Ohio, formerly Geauga Lake) filming a ride there from the midway (the big pathways you walk around on). They E-stopped the ride, and came on the PA system and started yelling at me that taking video *of* rides was not permitted. They had to evac the train and created this huge scene, park security raked me over the coals, blah blah blah. This happened to other people too over the next few weeks until park staff clarified that the rule was you couldn’t take photos *on* the rides. Some ops person misunderstood and perpetuated this myth that photography of any kind at the park, of any ride, was prohibited.

Another time, I was in Montreal riding the Metro and taking pictures of the beautiful stations. A station/kiosk attendant came out of their booth and threatened to call the police at me. I asked why, what had I done wrong and he said that it was illegal to take pictures of the stations. I wasn’t about to get into it with him and just moved on. Ever since, every time I go to ride the Metro now I contact the STM (metro operator) ahead of time and they have this form you can get saying you’re allowed to take pictures, just in case.

A couple of people misinterpreting the law and rules and having a bad day can ruin it for good natured people who have a genuine interest in something, and it’s a damn shame.

What's new? Retaining wall started. Cable trench between the two future tracks. Nice day out.

I sure hope that UW and the Region work together to expedite the removal of that retaining wall at the back of the Pharmacy building. With King St lowered so much, it's virtually unnecessary.

That retaining wall only looks tall enough for the height the track surface is currently. Shouldn't it be higher to accommodate for the increase in grade in order to reach the surface of the bridge?
