Checking over the plans for phase 3 it shows the grade slopes down from Wellington. At the south east end of phase 3 there is a park proposed at the underpass as the building hangs over supported by columns, this also is the entrance to the community space back behind. This would technically make the building 162.86m from grade at the south east end to the top of the penthouse.

What are the general opinions on how these two towers are looking so far? I think they look better than the brutal renderings but still super generic. Maybe they will contrast better when the other towers go up.

They appear to be of higher built quality than some other projects going up in my opinion. Yea they’re no crazy design, but I think they’re clean and stay true to their renderings. I also like how there is no huge above-ground parking podium like others have had to implement. It will be interesting to see how the commercial spaces turn out given that they will be facing a construction zone for a while - but the units have nice tall ceilings with patios which would be great for restaurants!

I suppose that combination is the best we can hope for in this region. The podium is inoffensive as well, which is all I really care about. Though I'm of the opinion that there is almost no such thing as an attractive highrise (I think the scale and proportions rule it out). The ones I like globally I could probably count on my fingers, and they are usually built as monuments first, and places to live and work second.

They're generic, but as good as it's going to get for condos in Waterloo Region for a while. Building E will look the best though I have yet to really check what materials they'll use. I know it won't be COR-TEN steel as nice as that would be!

Interesting opinions on the look of these. I think some of the details on the DTK facing side are pretty janky and messy. The other side is OK but I'm not a fan of the big car drop off loop, feels very suburban.
I think City Centre 1 is better looking than these by a bit. |
