That's pretty disappointing. Queen Shawarma was my fav/go to place for years. They were really great folks. I think the closing of the bus terminal hurt their business some. But I have no idea what happened...
Big Fat Pita - it does seem to have closed unfortunately. They went from "temporarily closed" on Google Maps and delivery apps for about a month, and then permanently closed on Google Maps and completely removed from delivery apps. The windows are papered over, although some ads remain up.
I started eating at Ace Shawarma since then, but it feels significantly less healthy (way too much sauce on everything). Ace does have proper online ordering though (without paying for the Uber/Skip/Doordash overhead), which I wish every restaurant had.
I mean, I agree on all counts for Ace...I like it thought...it's a treat, I'm not going to pretend it is healthy lol. I guess for people doing it for a regular lunch it can be a problem.
I used to go to Big Fat Pita as well, but after we moved to our condo it was hard to walk past Queen Shawarma and not go there. I'm glad they're working on a place at the market...

Odd Duck Wine & Provisions (which has done pop-ups before) is taking up residence on Ontario St, including the locations of Queen Shawarma and (the temporary home of) the BIA. Looks interesting ...

That's good news! I don't eat meat but I go there for falafel and sweets at times. The people who work there are so nice and always spoil me.

Good to hear. I was wondering whether they would have non-meat options, given the "Duck" in the name ...

Despite the name they've always had non-meat options on the menu (and rarely duck). The team behind it has quite a good reputation, having previously worked at many of the region's best restaurants. Their pop-up was also named one of the 10 best pop-ups in Canada for 2022.

Some other “local news” types have started doing lists like this and I’m so relieved to see positive news for once. I want to go to every spot on there…

I'm surprised it has taken this long to see a second coffee shop close in DTK -- and Starbucks has already reopened, for that matter.

Quote:When downtown Kitchener's long-standing Jamaican restaurant Rainbow Caribbean Cuisine closed last August, a small GTA chain, Oh Bombay, laid claim to the space and is set to open soon.
Fuck yeah. I'm mostly vegan but Jamaican food is so good that I'm always willing to occassionally break my rules to enjoy a good meal.

I'm more surprised Coffee Time even lasted that long. It was the ghetto trashy version of Tim Horton's and most of them went under years ago.

Looks like Coffee Lime has also gone under:
