This sounds very exciting, I wish them all the best. Looking forward to see what grocer moves into the space.

Terrific news, if it happens. I'm always a bit sceptical of development news that comes with no timeframes.

Given that I'll be living downtown from next month, I would be very, very happy to see a decent grocery store in the American Block!

Hate to be a total skeptic, but this sounds a lot like the song and dance we heard from Revel/Madison when they bought it.
'Hoping' to get interest from an urban grocer.....

Oh yes, it's OHM Development Group.
http://ohmdevelopmentgroup.com/ The render looks OK: But looking at OHM's web site, they have a lot of future projects but not much that's already under way. So I like the concept, but like REnerd, I have some concern about whether and when this would actually become reality.

Not sure if I missed it but was he ever able to get all the properties up to the burned down Riskey Business or is it still owned by 6 different people from all over?

Only the corner building. If you look at the rendering on their website you still see that "Revel" name on it.
I have a hard time understanding what a 'luxury condo' without parking looks like in Kitchener..... My dream development here is an assembly of the whole corner. Then a stepped back tower with the old King Street facades preserved on the street frontage. Much like the new condos going in on Yonge Street in Toronto. This provides new retail stock and more than a handful of new residential. Dream on....

And another Blue Collar bar is about to bite the dust.

Ya those renders were originally on the Revel website. I wonder if they're just showing what could be, or if they're using the exact same design plan. Anyways, good to see this could be happening. It had no chance with Revel sadly.

Were the upper floors unoccupied? My guess is that until recently (give or take 5-10 years), the upper units were home to various residents looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Kitchener for a variety of reasons. Where will they live? Not likely in a luxury condominium. I think that Kitchener should be proactive an encourage property owners to provide residential options for a variety of income levels and ages, not just the late-20s-early-30s, university educated demographic.

I don't think anyone has lived in the building for at least a couple of years. I note that work is slowly proceeding at the other end of the block, where new floor joists were being put in today on the ground level. I believe that end is going to be retail on the main floor with a couple of rental units on the second and third floors. Maybe Capers can take over the old Hive at Scott St. Whatever was supposed to happen there seems to be going nowhere.

Scaffolding has gone up today at the other end of the American Hotel Block and there is a full work team on site. I understand that there will be commercial space at the ground level with apartments above. I had almost given up hope for that side of the building.
