I toured this house some years ago on an Doors Open Day. It had undergone renovations and the renovating architect was on hand. She was conscious of the scrutiny she would receive in handling an iconic structure. The tour underlined Erickson’s belief that a building should complement and extend its natural setting.
A couple days ago, the the 21 degree forecast (for November 4th!) made it impossible to resist a late-season kayak outing on the Grand River. The house “complements the setting” so well that you can hardly see it, even with the leaves mostly down. In fact, I was almost past it on the far side of the river before I recognized it. My little point-and-shoot camera was quickly pressed into action. Apologies to Lens for the artistic demerit.

Thanks, that's fantastic; it's an angle you never see this house from! I still can't believe there's one of his works adorning our region.

Interesting I was walking along Roland a couple of months ago and I thought someone had built a new house (which I thought odd since it was in the heart of a Heritage District) but it appears that it was a very large updating.

I was reminded today of this interesting building on Middlebrook Road just north of West Montrose. I don't know if it's intended as a dwelling, a folly, or some other purpose, but it always turns my head when riding past.

I once heard the story behind the turret on Middlebrook, but can't fully recall the details. For some reason art studio comes to mind, but it's been a few years so don't quote me on it.

The Record has a piece on a house I have long wondered about - the skinny tower of Braun St.

Hi. Do you have any other houses or reference pointing to Eric Schuele's homes in the Region? I am currently doing research on one property that will be selling shortly. Would like to see others.
Thanks,

The first time I drove by this place I had to take a second look because I was amazed by the size of this house. It's quite grand but, in my opinion, it doesn't fit into the neighbourhood. I think it would look better in the Loire Valley in France.
The house is at 1447 Huron Road. It sits on 8 acres and is currently assessed at 2,117,000. It was built in 2007 and has 6176 square feet.

It's not unique, but the yellow brick cottage next door is really charming. I'd love to live in that house!

At some level, that's likely the point - new money tends to want to be seen, not just to fit in.

Haha... I like the sign! Much more polite than this one. which makes me cringe every time we drive past it... (when it was under construction, they installed giant floodlights on the thing and had them on 24/7, and had signs up all along the entrance drive, warning about trespassing, too.)

there isn't much of a neighbourhood in the area for it to stick out though
