The University of Waterloo turnkey desk has Presto services at the counter, and it's open to anyone (not just students). I bought a Presto card from them last week. I think the train station also has counter service but for limited hours.

I get the sense they don't want to install Presto machines unless the facility is mostly permanent. We should get them at the UW terminal when it opens, and the new transit hub, but they don't want to put one at Charles because it would only be there a few years at most.

Demand is somewhere. Cars only mean they are needed by the time you get to Union. Demand on the Kitchener-Malton section is probably stagnant, given that's where new runs are slated to go from (accepting that layover facilities play a role in this).

Right. I think our layover capacity is maxed out so regardless of the demand, we won't get any more runs until there is two-way GO. Until then, adding cars to the existing runs is the only way to add passenger capacity.

There are spaces for 6 trains in Kitchener, 4 at the Shirley yard and 2 at Park, so we could theoretically get two more trains before 2WAD comes along.
Demand exists primarily between Georgetown and Bramalea. You can go from having a packed car leaving Union to being the only person left after Georgetown, pending on the train. It is getting more used through KW, but volume going end to end is still low.

The additional cars are good for those boarding eastbound in Bramalea, who regularly have to stand or sit on the stairs. Westbound, it'll be more likely to run on the train 5 minutes before boarding and get a seat.
We get the extra cars because we store the trains. Until a better agreement is in place with CN, I think we're unlikely to see any more trains coming our way.

As of January 5, 2019, GO buses will cease to come to the York University Keele campus. You'll need to transfer to YRT or TTC at the 407 subway station to continue to the York U campus (and of course pay the separate fare to access the TTC system). Hopefully there will be increased 25F service with this change (winter schedules are expected out in mid-December):

For York U: From the Hwy 407 Bus Terminal, take the TTC Line 1 subway to the on-campus Pioneer Village or York University stops.
For stops on Keele St.: From the Hwy 407 Bus Terminal and the Pioneer Village subway stop there are TTC and/or YRT bus options.
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.
