I'll be posting late for the next few days as I am in Toronto for some meetings.

While the numbers themselves don't look great (as we're slowly getting higher), it is important to keep in mind that hospitalizations continue to fall, as do number of patients in the ICU. This means that the vaccine is working as it should, though it also shows the importance that the 19% holdouts (of 12 and up) need to get a shot in their arm, and/or authorizing, once it is safe to do so, injections of Pfizer (the most likely candidate) for 6 mo to 11 years.

If the vaccine doesn't stop you from getting it though, doesn't that mean the numbers will continue to be there, but as you said the hospitalizations will continue to fall?

It also doesn't mean you won't be hospitalised.

The thing that WILL happen is the virus will spread, enough people getting it (remember exponential growth), unvaccinated folks (remember, children! who might be more susceptible to delta) will end up in the hospital. There's more than enough unvaccinated folks for uncontrolled spread to be disastrous.

The other thing that COULD happen is that the virus could acquire a mutation to avoid the vaccine defence, and we'll start this whole thing over again.

Uncontrolled spread is a bad idea....a very bad idea.

And if that happens, we will find out whether we as a civilization are worthy of continued existence: if we put in place widespread vaccination mandates (when the new vaccines are ready), we might be; if we’re too worried about hurting wittle anti-vaxxers precious snowflake feelings, we definitely aren’t.

No PHU in the "Orange" or above. That's a good sign. Ontario seems to be levelling out, which is also good. Todays raw data (which Tom will post later) will show a slight decrease from last Thursdays numbers.

Regardless, we still need to get more vaccinations in arms, as there still seems to be concentrations of missed groups.
