Planning settlement may put 12 towers back on track in north Waterloo
Waterloo city hall and a developer are poised to resolve a year-long planning dispute that has stalled a dozen residential towers proposed in north Waterloo.
The parties have advised the Ontario Land Tribunal to cancel a 12-day hearing into the project that was to begin Thursday. Instead, written documents will be provided within a few days to allow the tribunal to consider a settlement Feb. 12, said a spokesperson for the provincial tribunal.

Waterloo developers have put 40 residential towers before the provincial tribunal for approval at six locations, arguing city hall took too long to decide or imposed onerous conditions. The towers, if built, would add 9,531 dwellings.
In 13 months, the tribunal has approved four towers and is considering 20 more following full or partial planning settlements. Hearings are scheduled later this year into the merits of 16 other towers.
