Work in the 21st century

This is very true. I know there is a bit of a generational shift in general to 'work colleagues are not friends, and certainly not "family" '  in a sort of hack-the-career work is a means to an end point of view. But it's certainly gone too far this way. People still crave socializing and having some connection with colleagues.

Thing about that is that the employer is not going to hesitate to drop you when you are not convenient. Very much not a family. Employer/employee relationship should be transactional.
