Vidyard to lease Goudies

Quote:It’s only been a few months since Steve and Frank Voisin announced plans to turn the old Goudies Department Store into brick and beam office space, and already they have found their primary tenant — Kitchener-based tech company Vidyard.
“Today we have just about 80 employees. But we’re growing really quickly and expect to be out of space in our current space by the end of the year — which puts us at about 150 people,” Devon Galloway, co-founder and chief technology officer at Vidyard told the Post. “This space affords us growth up to 300, so that gives us a little bit of a longer runway to grow the team and expand the business.”
Galloway said for Vidyard and any other businesses, it’s important the space suit the needs and culture of the company, and the former department store, at 8 Queen St. N., will do just that.
“When this building came up, we talked to the Voisins and toured it. It’s a really cool space and … there’s a really unique history with this building. We’re excited to continue the legacy,” he said.
Vidyard, the video marketing platform company, is currently based out of 119 King St. W., about 400 metres away. Galloway said it was important to remain in the core.
“We’ve always been big believers in the downtown core and have always been located down here,” he said.
“It’s hard to find office space that’s all together in one building of this sheer size that can accommodate our growing team. It’s nice that buildings like this are getting redeveloped.”
Co-owner of the building, Steve Voisin, said he is excited, and a little bit surprised how quickly 80 per cent of the building was leased.
“It is brick and beam, and it is a commodity. There’s not that much brick and beam out there. This was the only building on the market at the time and still is,” Voisin said, adding he and his brother, Frank, are still receiving calls about leasing space.
“A building like this doesn’t come up that often with this much brick and beam.”
He said they met with the Vidyard team just before purchasing the building, and the deal came together shortly afterward.
“We’re going to finish construction in January, and then Vidyard has about three months to make it their space and then they move in in April or May,” he said.
“Right now Vidyard is busting at the seams, so with their growth rate by the first quarter of 2016, they will be out of space. They have to move.”
