Last night city council decided to, on the basis of a SINGLE delegation to council demanding parking closer to their home (maximum 30 meters additional walk) to substantially compromise the Young St. bike lane project.
Instead of continuing straight on Young, cyclists will have to pass Young, turn onto Ahrens (a much busier road), and then turn back onto Young.
This choice demonstrates city council puts the priority of a single person asking for parking (at the last minute) above that of months and months of public consultation, staff research, and cycling committee input. It demonstrates that it doesn't matter how good an idea is, there is no level of entitled NIMBYism too small to derail it.
As far as the votes go, Sarah Marsh, Kelly Galloway-Sealock, and Dave Schneider voted against this change, Berry Vrbanovic was not present, as far as I know, the rest (including I believe my City Councillor, who I will be writing to on this issue) voted for this change.

Now, it's not the end of the world, most people will ignore it, and illegally go down Young as they do today, this is simply indicative of the attitude on council, and gives me little hope the city will make good on it's cycling promises.
