Our government has been waffling to say the least, but this is not the right direction.
As someone said on the Reddit, if everyone were to pick and choose which laws they think are worthwhile and ignore all the others, we would live in a total anarchy.
I sympathize with small business, but there is a reason why the government has shut things down -- and it's the law.
While I agree it is the law, I disagree that they have "shut things down"...they have shut a few things down, but they've left so much open. Honestly, this is the real problem here. Our policies are near pessimal, we don't lock down hard enough or long enough or soon enough, meaning we never stamped the virus out, we are maximizing economic harm while still having a significant public health harm.
If you want me to respect a small business, show me one who advocated faster harder lockdowns. There are actually a few I think. And like I said, it isn't a selfless thing, it's just a smart, forward looking thing.
