According to reporting, Hillier repeatedly said they weren't getting enough vaccines from the federal government, but they've only distributed 1/3rd of the vaccines they have received.

I've said it other places, but no wonder conservatives hate government so much, they have the most incompetent most corrupt governments, so of course they would have no faith in government.

It's a Federal issue, not provincial.

General Hillier admitted (my gawd) to the errors they made in holding back, back in December, but the issue is that we are running out vaccine. Meanwhile, Israel is on track to vaccinating their entire population by the end of January.

Meanwhile, all Canadians have to pound sand for at least another 6 months because the Federal government has no ability to procure the vaccine in a timely fashion.

As I understand, the feds are distributing all the vaccines they have been able to secure from Pfizer and Moderna. And according to the two companies' execs, Canada is near the front of the line (yes, Israel was even quicker).

All Canadians need to wait six months or more?

Lockdowns don't work. And the more you lockdown, the worse it gets. Quebec and California are good examples.

Short hard lockdowns really work, especially if you don't have wishy washy going-to-work exceptions. Australia locked down for 3 months but you could go to work. NZ locked down between 26 March and 27 April at level 4 (max lockdown, truly essential work only) and from 28 April to 14 May at level 3 (mostly locked down). That's 7 weeks. Atlantic Canada is also a good example.

Quebec and California haven't actually been locked down.

"lockdowns don't work"...

I'm not even going to bother addressing this. How do you think the virus transmits without people interacting?

If we aren't seeing results, it's because we aren't locked down.

I am well aware of General Hillier blaming others...but we are not "running out"...we've distributed less than 50% of the vaccines we have received....that's not running out...

Israel has nothing to do with this.

We were one of the first handfuls of countries to have people vaccinated, so I'd hardly say we haven't procured a vaccine in a timely fashion. I would like to see a public schedule of procurements, but ultimately, no matter if you feel the federal government hasn't done well, the province is not distributing what they do have.

From the article you linked: "1.2 million additional vaccine doses are expected to arrive in Canada this month. " That'll be roughly 500K doses for Ontario. According to the article, Ontario is vaccinating 10,000 people a day. So, assuming they work at full pace through the weekends, Ontario will need to speed up the vaccination rate by about 60% in order to keep up with the deliveries into the province.

Additionally, our ability to inject vaccines is a huge factor in our ability to get more. Pfizer and Moderna don't want to ship vaccines that are just going to sit in freezers, they want to send them to places that will inject them. If we were injecting them faster than they were shipping them, it would be much easier for the federal government to make the case that we should be receiving more. As long as we've injected under half of our supply, we're not going to be a priority to receive more.

Israel announced last night they have convinced Pfizer to send them enough vaccines to vaccinate everyone 16+ by March, https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/israel...ive-654672 . That puts them 3 months ahead of the US's claims, and 6 months ahead of Canada's claims. Their extremely rapid and effective rollout has to be a huge factor in why.

They are also a much smaller country to logistically get the vaccine to people....

The vast VAST majority of our population lives in a very small area. This is a common excuse I hear about Canada and it carries no weight. There are challenges to getting it to every Canadian, but those challenges don't apply to getting to the vast majority of our population.

Pfizer delivers the vaccine to Canada by shipping it via UPS directly to our hospitals. It's in boxes packed with dry ice, so it doesn't travel through a special cold chain, just a regular UPS package. That doesn't work for delivering the vaccine to the territories, but it's a laughable excuse for the 95% of the Canadian population that lives in or close to urban areas. Anywhere that Amazon can provide prime shipping to, which includes most small towns, the logistics aren't the reason we're not getting the vaccines.

This simply isnt true. Israel knows people in Gaza and West Bank need to be vaccinated for any type of immunity to be achieved. There was a article from the Jerusalem post just the other day about how Isreal was using backdoor channels to send vaccines to Palestine. It simply cant be public because Isreal and Hamas working together is an absolute no no.

That's basic politics

*Rolls eyes* the very fact that withholding vaccines from certain people is politically positive for some people is fundamental the problem with our society.

But frankly I completely believe they would simply withhold the vaccine.

It is true, though. You're correct that Israel agreed to help Palestine out with 3-4 million doses, but they are still having severe problems sourcing more and Israel - an apartheid state that vehemently hates Palestinians - is hardly eager to help...

There are a lot of countries ahead of Canada besides US, UK and Israel.

Others are: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Denmark, Iceland, Slovenia, Italy, Lithuania and Estonia.

A real problem all the provinces have is that they have no idea how much of the existed vaccine they should hold back for second doses, as the Federal government didn't procure shipments of vaccine for certain dates. Ontario, is throwing caution into the wind by using all existing supply, but it might mean that those who received their first dose may not get their second dose in time.

"All Canadians" means those that are not vulnerable and not front line workers (as in, LTC workers, healthcare and likely first responders as well). I am hearing end of June at the earliest, but quite possible 4th quarter of 2021 (October).

This also means we could be in lockdown for another year.

My suggestion would be for the provinces to get together and spend the money to s build a plant that can create vaccines. My guess is that now this covid-19 is around, and is starting to mutate, it's not going anywhere anytime soon. As since the Federal government has zero desire to create their own solution, leave it to the provinces.

I had mentioned how well Israel had done regarding their vaccine program. Someone told me that was because Israel itself we making the vaccine. But this actually isn't true. What Israel did differently than Canada was promise a smooth and efficient rollout of the vaccine. The idea was since they have public healthcare (like Canada) the pharmaceuticals could use Israel as a template for the rest of the world. The Liberal government didn't want to do this, they wanted to see how the vaccine worked in other countries first, before approving use here. And this is why further down the line that places like Israel, the UK, the USA and those other countries that I mentioned.
