Driving time from Cambridge to some potential locations, as compared to current location on King St W:
- Aud site: -5 minutes
- UW lands: +5 minutes
- Erb St W (near Costco): +10 minutes
The Aud site really has the best access of any of the options. UW lands are awfully far from Cambridge.

I don’t think distance from Cambridge is very important. Even with amalgamation they’ll still have their own emergency department (Right? My comments to date on the idiocy of excessive amalgamation of emergency departments have been based on reducing the number of ERs in KW; if Cambridge is to be included as well, then I need to come up with new words to describe the level of stupidity).

The plan only calls for replacing GRH and St Mary's. Cambridge Memorial should remain.

I think it was more of a way to say that a hospital at the top of Waterloo is surprisingly far from the big suburbs that line the Kit-Cam border, leaving them in limbo.

OK, I understand Cambridge is still to have a hospital of its own.
Expressway to Northfield shouldn’t be too bad, I would think; but I agree the Aud site is more central (and great for expressway access).

Those numbers are in ideal situations. Rush hour on the expressway, forget about it !!

Rush hour is worse everywhere.

Rush hour is worse everywhere. The parkway in Waterloo is especially bad due to its mid 60s design standards around exits (Lancaster and University) that can add 15+ mins to any commute without any incidents.

You mean the exit that our “definitely not neocon” mayor decided was the lifeblood of the community?

Yes it’s ridiculous. Closing that exit will make the highway much better for Cars! (With the much added benefit of changing Lancaster to a more human scaled road)
I would expect that that single closure may prolong the need for freeway widening in Waterloo for at least a decade.

The Queen St KPL is hosting a town-hall meeting on Jan 16 (7-9pm) about choosing a new hospital site: https://www.therecord.com/news/kitchener...rhp_166579
A town-hall meeting is scheduled for Jan. 16 when hospital officials will talk about their plans to expand and merge operations in Kitchener.
Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital will have officials at the meeting Jan. 16, 7-9 p.m. at the main branch of the Kitchener Public Library to answer questions. You must register in advance by securing free tickets on the website futureofcaretogether.ca.
I've snagged an in-person ticket to attend, and will try to summarize some notes here afterward for anyone who won't be able to make it. There is also an option for an 'online' ticket, if you click through the website, if you want to watch from home.

Seems like a very small venue for such a major issue.

They can do 200 people in the theatre and theatre lounge combination.

The 50-acre requirement is so weird for all the reasons that have been outlined here. I can only assume it's meant to exclude certain sites in order to tilt the process in favour of one or more of the 50-acre-plus proposals.

Nearly fell out of my chair at him stating voting to close "is anti-prosperity and progress for the city". If it wasn't already obvious how bad faith his position was preceding that. As others said, a lot of people driving on the highway would be happy to see that close aside the Lancaster benefits, myself included.
