In a reasonable world an idea being platformed by D'Amato should be sufficient justification for the government to not do it. But it would make sense for the local government to add as much misery to my life as possible to match what the provincial and federal governments have done.

I cannot read the article but I take it the space would easily be able to house 150 to 250 people...not sure if the word temp is in there but I can see it ending up being a decade+ before the situation is revisited. No one, and I mean no one, will want to visit Victoria Park (again). It even puts the city at risk of festivals pulling out...

It's basically another "there are a lot of homeless people and it's YOUR fault" article. Parts of it advocate for your tax dollars to build MORE tent encampments in the region for some strange reason. Other parts somehow equate fresh off the boat refugees to those living on the streets and almost implies they live out there too, although there is no comparison there. Refugees don't just land in Canada and start living in parks. A white liberal judge who probably has never seen a homeless person in real life said the region has to let these people continue to live like this. An activist says hey this is actually not good, but can't offer a better idea other than maybe we should put them in the old abandoned bus shelter...you can fit a lot of them in there. No atom of a solution from either side, really. Then it concludes everyone is bad and there are no answers, but hey we spent money on the LRT.

It's a big part of the puzzle. IIRC correctly half all shelter space in Ottawa is being used by refugees, and Toronto's Mayor Chow has been begging for support from higher levels of government because they can't handle the amount of refugees and claimants either. If the same space being allocated to refugees instead prioritized citizens (or PR and visa holders) then that would be a lot more refugees living on the street.

Are you specifically talking about not accepting any refugees, given that some of those are temporarily housed in shelters (whereas work permit holders typically are not).

Did we "deal with whats in the hopper" before the latest immigration policy? We haven't been building shelters or even normal housing since well before the COVID migrations. This red herring keeps popping up in all of the discussions around decaying social programs. Hospitals, schools, housing, homelessness, transit.. they were all decaying well before any waves of immigration and they will continue to decay when the immigrants stop. But then we will have to find something else to blame for the decay instead of looking inwards. No immigrants moved to rural Ontario and their hospitals will continue to close down. Rinse and repeat this discussion on any social issue.
