ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
Victoria (including King/Victoria and Charles/Victoria) opening tonight. About 30 minutes ago they were just working on the final lane markings.

I'm hearing it's expected to open closer to midnight.

They didn't say what time, but they did say they would finish and get it open tonight.  Smile  And it's the lane markings on Victoria (N side of King) that were missing.  According to the crew, that was the last thing on the list.

The intersection looks great with the new islands, pavement and embedded track already.  Will be better yet once I see a train on it!

I'd been standing there for 3 hours watching them. It was mezmerizing Smile. I must've seen you pass by, Tom!

Anyway, I left after they finished the lines, thankfully JUST before it started to rain. They stood around talking for a while, looked like they just needed to move the pylons out of the way. Must've been something else going on too though, because they kept turning people away that were trying to drive through. I left when I couldn't feel my fingers anymore, about a half hour ago. I'd assume it's open by now!

You must have been there, yes! They hadn't started actually painting yet when we walked by. I just chatted briefly with the workers and then we continued our walk back down King St.

Sure, he just coasts in and takes the glory after we do all the hard work of watching the paint dry! Wink

This reminds me of when Phillip in Waterloo had all the sewers redone to accommodate the new buildings and also had to go back and to add manholes. I wonder if there's a reason for not doing it the first time, or if it's just a D'oh moment.

We just popped in the car and drove around the area for fun. Windows down, light rain, warm breeze - nobody around so there's an echo off the buildings. Eerie and the lighting is so bright, feels like such a huge city! Like GtwoK, I am loving the atmosphere there.

Just wait until the trains arrive, you'll need to move downtown to enjoy all this! Wink

...back downtown! We lived at the Kaufman lofts from 2008 (opening) to just before construction started. Sad I just so happen to love my other half more than trains haha Wink

I thought we were there in 2007.  Maybe my memory is fading in my old age.
