Pretty sure a crane is going up at this site today. They dug the location out pretty deep over the past couple weeks.

Yes, I saw the crane going up this morning. I thought about taking a picture, but I was already running late.

Ya this one's definitely less exciting than some other proposals

The title of this thread needs to be corrected to University Ave W?

This project is really coming up out of the ground now. Wish my car could snap photos while I drive by places.

I need to make my way over there and check it (and a bunch of others) out

This proposal has changed significantly from the last set of renders.
This is the description of this project on the PG Design Studio website. "High-rise residential 15-storeys, 92 units 1 bedroom suites Situated within close proximity to 2 major universities along a major regional corridor, 131 will offer pedestrians a series of pathways connecting them to the site and surrounding area providing a long awaited solution for the student on foot. The north façade’s ‘visual pathway’ will incorporate a lighting feature that will become a beacon along University Avenue that will inevitably act as an urban wayfinder and focal point." If you go to https://www.pgdstudio.com/, you can also see the new renders for this project under "Upcoming Projects". They have a new explainer video for this project, showing the new renders: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j46lXoO2b60

What’s this stuff about “offer pedestrians a series of pathways connecting them to the site and surrounding area”? Is it significantly different from any other building? I’d be more impressed if the building was designed to allow walking through, and to connect to adjacent buildings in the future. If a few buildings started doing that pretty soon winter weather wouldn’t be much of a consideration for students living close to the universities.

The developers probably changed the name of the project to avoid comparisons with the rejected project on the same site.
Overall much better than the early 2000s students high rises in Waterloo (See King St, University to Columbia). But still too many contrasting colours for my taste. Side Note - This project is going up really quickly, I think that they are already at 8-10 floors. |
