The Market Flats | 7 fl | Completed
#76
First floor looks pretty good. Precast for upper floors?

First floor complete. Second floor under way. It looks like no precast, some structural concrete walls plus steel stud walls. Maybe this is too small for precast to be cost-effective?

I think you accidentally posted your Breithaupt picture instead of Market Flats

Thanks! I did indeed. Here's the photo I took today, in any case.

This part of downtown could really be transformed in great ways if our city can manage it. I cant wait to see how it all turns out. The "Market District" was one of their proud moments a few years ago, some nice dense development with retail along this stretch of road (which is mostly empty lots, gravel parking lots, fenced off lots full of weeds and piles of dirt right now). If they can bring get more homes build - preferably affordable - this could become a really cool area downtown. Many years ago, it was quite an arts hub and it still is, in a way...there is a small gallery on King, KWAG and Centre and the Square are like 3 blocks away, there's a famous record shop etc. In my idealized world, I'd want to see the market booming every day, nearby shops able to make a living, some outdoor seating areas, galleries, music venues and cheap(er) places to live...all right beside the LRT line. A Kitchener Kensington Market (alright, I might be dreaming at this point...)

It just occurred to me that the term "The Market Flats" is a very English term (though used in India as well). I guess saying "The Market Flats" sounds a little more upscale than saying "The Market Apartments".

The scaling of this fits nicely with what's around it.

I could never live there though, next to nova era...dangerous.

Was there underground parking dug for this building? I didn't pay much attention to this until it was finally being built. The initial post in this thread mentions a commercial space on the ground floor, but the render also appears to show a garage and a car pulling out on the right side of the building.

It’s even worse, with Golden Hearth just across the street.  Add a decent wine shop (!), a cheese shop, and a spot to nurse a flat white to that block and I’m moving there!
