What's really going on in Peel? The infections are almost all close contact or community, and the positivity rate keeps going up -- need more testing, clearly with a positivity rate of 4%.

It's only a controversy because a majority of people that vote early, mail-in-vote and drive-thru vote, are democrats. For this year, though, indeed covid related, since mail-in-vote and drive-thru vote a very safe, and since it's democrats that believe that covid is real, they'll be a strong majority in those areas.

Waterloo Region again reported 17 new cases for today (14.5% of the active cases), plus added six more for yesterday for a total of 23.  121 new cases for the week (+12), averaging 16.5% of active cases (ugh). 131 active cases (+24 in the last seven days).

An average of 1,007 tests per day over the past week and a positivity rate of 1.75%.

Ontario reported 1,050 new cases today with a seven-day average of 958 (+54). 837 recoveries and fourteen deaths translated to an increase of 199 active cases, and a current total of 8,295, yet another record. +777 active cases for the week, and 63 deaths. 25,297 tests resulted in a 4.15% positivity rate. Waterloo Region again reported 23 new cases for today (17.4% of the active cases).  136 new cases for the week (+15), averaging 17.9% of active cases (ugh). 140 active cases (+46 in the last seven days).

This is quite disconcerting, really. The number of active cases is creeping up -- 50% increase in the last week -- but on top of that, the new cases as a percentage of actives (which implies R0, or the infection rate) is also increasing. What has changed in the region?

One of many things demonstrated by the US election is that killing people (especially the right people) does not threaten your political success.

I agree casinos, Dollarama, bars, etc. are not anywhere close to being essential, so we could be shutting down better than we are, but a true lockdown would be impossible.

Many lower-income people use Dollarama for their daily groceries so I think that would be essential. Unless we were to provide some kind of food delivery service to those people.

Not that I’ve envied Doug Ford, but I definitely don’t envy politicians trying to balance public health/death counts against the risks to the economy.
