The COVID-19 pandemic
(11-05-2021, 02:29 PM)tomh009 Wrote: 79.98% of total regional population vaccinated (+0.48% from 7 days ago), 75.82% fully vaccinated (+0.49% from 7 days ago).

Ontario reported 563 new cases today -- the highest in four weeks -- with a seven-day average of 404 (+21), compared to 355 a week ago. +357 active cases and 31 deaths for the week. 30,187 tests with a positivity rate of 1.87%. The positivity rate is averaging 1.54% for the past seven days, compared to 1.37% for the preceding seven.

86 people in the ICU (excluding 23 SK patients), +1 from yesterday and -14 over the past week.

We're back on the upswing. A new recent high in cases, and the weekly change trend is now clearly above zero (see chart below).

Some extra details:

• 259 unvaccinated
• 15 partially vaccinated
• 249 fully vaccinated
• 40 status unknown

Adds up to 563 new cases today. 264 fully or partially vaccinated against 259 unvaccinated.

I think we'll be seeing a lot more "parity" with cases now that most of the deniers have gotten sick already and those with shots are starting to lose immunity to the virus. More critical now to get a 3rd and 4th dose (for high riskers). Hopefully we can start to ramp up clinics again.

Speaking of third shots, I'm curious if anyone here knows if it is possible to get a third shot in order to "fix" one's mixed vaccination.

I certainly do not feel that I need to "fix" that, but unfortunately certain places that I may be traveling soon do not recognize mixed vaccinations as complete vaccinations, so it would be very helpful if I could get a second shot of the same vaccine in order to get "fully vaccinated" status.

I'm getting the sense that it is not possible. On the other hand, when I do travel, given that they won't recognize me as vaccinated when I get there, I imagine I should be able to get a vaccine there, but it will still make traveling more complicated.

That, and the fact that over 90% of the eligibles have already had at least one dose. Without vaccinations, the current level would probably result in 3000+ new cases in a day -- and that's with only the about 3000 active cases that we have today. Infections would quickly go through the roof, really.

It’s been interesting to see how much Kingston has gone up in terms of cases. They have different leadership now, as Dr. Moore is working for the province now.

Given that our government has started this as well and will possibly expand it to the full population, people here should consider it.
