The COVID-19 pandemic

And since it's a standard vaccine, the blowhards can stop complaining. But, yeah, a lot of "Ifs". In including "If" the vaccine doesn't have serious side effects like the Astra-Zeneca one. Hopefully it's as good as they claim.

I'd be curious to know how many anti-vaxxers get this vaccine considering it has a different technology than the rest which are approved here. But sadly, I doubt it'll convince many people. Anti-vax people are dumb...very dumb
...like not even knowing how to tie your shoes dumb. Not knowing left from right dumb. Not knowing you need to drink water to survive dumb. These people are truly stupid. They'll still invent new reasons as to why Novavax will in fact kill everyone on the planet or how it's some great conspiracy which alien Reptilians and pharmaceutical companies are using it to turn us all into gay communists with dark skin or some other nonsense. There's always going to be a portion of the population we can't connect with and at this point it's pointless to really care about them. Dumb is dumb...just be content knowing these kind of people are able to cross the street without causing chaos.

I think this vaccine has more importance to the world in regards to distribution logistics. At this point, it's not the crack baby anti-vax conspiracy freaks with 7 brain cells left who we need to worry about. Those kind of people are too far gone to bother with. Instead, vaccines like this may become useful tools in vaccinating the developing world or nations where they may not have great access to sophisticated refrigeration (Mongolia or Bolivia, for example, where much of the population lives in rural areas). The more people vaccinated who live in harsher environments the better, because it means fewer chances of concernable mutations occuring.

Not sure if all these anti-vax people are dumb, they're more or less paranoid of government. I do know a couple doctors that are hell bent against mRNA vaccines, as they don't know the long term risks, 10, 20 years down the road. A lot of the anti-vax folks are afraid of the mRNA vaccines.

As for AZ, when one person in Ontario died from the vaccine, it was in the news for a couple weeks and all the focus was on the that death, and then it was no longer offered by 'the authorities'.

Hopefully the new vaccine will convince some unvaccinated people to get their shot. And, perhaps it can be given to people who have been already vaccinated with an inferior vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) -- if it holds true that it's 100% effective against serious illness.

But, big ifs. Real world is different than trials 99/100.

...

These "Doctors" should lose their license. If they don't understand enough about how vaccines work and how mRNA works to know this is a nonsensical fear, then they shouldn't be practicing medicine.

The mRNA "stuff" itself breaks down within days, any effect it has on you is done at that point. The ONLY remaining effects are from the vaccine's influence on your immune system through responding to the resulting spike protein and that is functionally identical to any other vaccine.

That being said, I have not heard that particular viewpoint from any MDs.

They might be losing more than that after the announcements in Ottawa this week.

I believe Moderna was also 100% effective against severe outcomes during the trials, it was at least 100% effective at preventing death. When your sample size is small, and doesn't include profoundly immunocompromised people, it's not that hard to get 100%.

Frozen bank accounts.

What does that have to do with the doctors mentioned above?

I had been responding to Dan -- he had said that doctors who are anti-vax should lose their license. I had said they'll lose more than that (bank accounts) in reference to anyone, including doctors, that funded the trucker movement in Ottawa.

Another useful fact: Today's provincial positivity rate is just under 7%, which is a lot better than before.

Given how low (and variable) the number of daily tests is, the absolute numbers are pretty much meaningless. But the positivity rate is steadily trending downwards, from a peak of almost 25%, and that is indeed a good thing.

Good to see WR in the bottom ten consistently over the past week or so. Also below the Ontario average by about 25%.
