The COVID-19 pandemic
(01-25-2022, 11:06 PM)tomh009 Wrote: It's got nothing to do with getting COVID-19 at a liquor store, and everything to do with using liquor store access to convince people to get vaccinated.

Might as well just start using tozinameran blow darts on people in that case. What next? People will need to be vaccinated to pump their gas, pick up insulin or buy groceries? At best this would get a handful of people to bite the bullet and get vaccinated, but not that many. All it would really do is add fuel to the fire of anti-vaxxers and even normal people. Eventually you hit a point where what you're doing makes no sense...

The majority of the country is already vaccinated anyway. It doesn't stop transmission. It is now not keeping the vaccinated out of the ICU, either. In fact, there are more fully vaccinated Ontarians in the ICU right now than there are unvaccinated. Similarly, there are more fully vaccinated people currently hospitalized than there are unvaccinated. So.............? Do we just keep rolling up our sleeves? Will there soon be a loyalty card, perhaps? Get 9 shots of Pfizer, get your 10th free and a blueberry muffin. Maybe throw in some Aeroplan miles each time to keep people even more incentivized.

LOL. How many people have got Covid-19 and died just going to the liquor store? What a joke these restrictions have become. This is the sort of nonsense you get when you let politicians attempt to dictate the best public health practices.

It's got nothing to do with getting COVID-19 at a liquor store, and everything to do with using liquor store access to convince people to get vaccinated.

I think the point was that those who are able to go out and buying pot or liquor aren't going to end up dead (what usually happens when you go into the ICU) anytime soon, vaccinated or not. The die hards that aren't going to vaccinate aren't unlikely to get vaccinated even with this mandate. Otherwise, you're targeting indigenous who have zero trust with government and you're targeting the homeless who also have zero trust with authorities -- though that really only applies to LCBO and The Beer Store.

The other demo-graph that aren't well vaccinated are 20-29 year olds -- mostly university students and recent grads, and they'll find ways to get their booze and drugs.

Deluca is trying to get political points, but that potato face isn't gaining anything by saying that. It's his party that ruined out healthcare system anyway.

While this was just a Liberal suggestion and will likely not happen, it's still a bit odd. At the start, we deemed the LCBO to be an essential service, particularly because alcoholics could begin to suffer withdrawals from alcohol which could have further complicated the health system. So then, assuming we made vaccination mandatory to buy alcohol, unvaccinated alcoholics will get the shaft.

But yeah, this is just Deluca trying to seem like he's doing something meaningful. But it's a ridiculous suggestion not only scientifically, but politically. It's like all the other parties want the Tories to win another 4 years.

While this is a good point, there are however, other difference between now and then, specifically, I can go into an app on my phone and push a few buttons and later booze shows up on my doorstep.

That being said, alcoholics who need to go to LCBO have an easy solution. Before we were talking about closing a store entirely, now it's only closed to brainwashed people.

Scientists keep an eye on "stealth" Omicron variant BA.2: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-omicr...-interest/

Despite this, Denmark is set to end all restrictions and classify Covid-19 as a disease that no longer poses a threat to society as their health care system is coping. While our health care sucks in comparison, I hope we can soon follow suit. I'm pretty much willing to move back to Europe at this point because we're never going to end this charade.

I mean, people have pointed out that there are essentially no restrictions in the US. But as I've said to someone, it's not when we say it's over, it's when the virus says it's over, and it doesn't really care about us saying it's over if it's not done with us yet. It's just about whether we're going to take it on its terms or on our terms.

Wastewater results for Region of Waterloo (https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/healt...lance.aspx) are way down. Moving average is decreasing a bit, but will lag of course.

Majority of Canadians (54%) now say it's time to end Covid restrictions and leave responsibility for isolation to those at risk. This is up from 40% in early January: https://twitter.com/angusreid/status/148...2192695297
