Look at the difference. We have one of the best court houses in the province. It exceeds our needs now.I do agree that the region should be working with the province to make sure that this is will accommodate the needs of the future ie. HFR/HSR. Unfortunately I don't think the current provincial government can see past Toronto and the 905, so I would expect anything from them. Metrolinx should step up and help with the design work and allow a shed to be built over the tracks, unfortunately they are preoccupied, building parking garages for suburban train stations.
As others have commented, there will be thousands of people using this service daily. What is proposed will be a financial liability. It will be outgrown in a decade or so and require massive money to rebuild on a site that already has a building.
I plan on writing my regional councilor with regards to the Region's lack of priority and focus on this project. As others have commented, these proposals are underwhelming at best. I encourage other members to write their councilors with their concerns.
One question I would ask here is in regards to the green space. As this lot is small to start out with, it strikes me that the green space is wasted space. Should we not be maximizing the space available in this location and not dedicating it to a seasonal use?
I think the region expects nothing from either of them until a new government is formed and they don't want to wait on this important regional infrastructure.
In terms of green space, Personally I want a public square, it creates a meeting place in the community. The site cornering king, victoria and water street is 2 acres. Carl zehr Square as an example is about 1/2 and acre so I do think that it will be a big enough size that it won't feel like a parkette.
