On the lunch walk today I saw a banner on the old beach volleyball court court next to Bobby's for a new restaurant/bar listed as coming soon.

Don Julio - Tacos and Tequila Bar.

Aw if they were moving downtown I'd be loving this. I hate uptown so I never go there.

Okay, I have to know. What do you hate about uptown?

I agree with ac3r on this one...

It is very uninteresting. Sterile and too perfect. For me it is like Oakville. Please dont let any homeless people here or street people.

DTK feel more like a city to me. I know it has work yet, but it is coming. I am down there every week and the transformation is wonderful. And the cool little restaurants and bars are really great. It isn't that Uptown is bad, just not for me...

See, I think it's a good thing that DTK and Uptown have really different vibes. If they were the same, there wouldn't be a particular draw to one or the other. To me, DTK feels a bit more 'big city' because it's admittedly rougher around the edges, and because it's built upwards in a way that Uptown has really avoided. In comparison, Uptown almost has more of a St Jacobs feel to me - a little sanitized, a little curated, a little bit more about the 'experience' than everyday needs.

I do wish that DTK had an ice cream parlour like Four All that was open late, though. Think they'll expand back into Kitchener anytime soon?

What Rainrider22 said. It feels sterile and uninteresting to me. Plus most things are geared towards 18-25 year olds.

They lasted about a year? Between 271 and La Cucina, it was always going to be hard to find customers for another not-particularly-different Italian restaurant.

Tried Bodega Rose at Erb and Regina this evening. Interesting, eclectic menu. I would recommend as a fine dining option if you are looking for something a bit different. Noise level is pretty high.

Score Pizza is opening a downtown location at 73 King St. W (King and Ontario). The location was formerly Zoup and then Elevate Cannabis.

The pasteis de nata at Luiso’s Bakery on Park St are the best I’ve had since Lisbon. Yum,

Also, why do so few of the better DTK restaurants post their menus outside? It’s not very helpful for visitors.

It's nice to see the ex-cannabis stores being repurposed now that the bubble is deflating.
