Perfectly placed in case the LRT is ever sent south to complete a loop between Conestoga Mall and the Uptown Square. And I guess they have decided that Waterloo is oversubscribed with hotel capacity so the Waterloo Inn hotel and event space can be scrapped.
I'm also surprised at the 1 and 2 story buildings (and 6 & 4 for that matter). It seems like a waste of space in an otherwise dense space. Is there some math that means the whole site can only have X square feet of space, so in order to have a 28 story space at one spot, there has to be a 1 story space elsewhere?

My goodness please keep Drewlo in London where they belong. These are really bad, at least I’ll be dead by the time they are complete and I’m 30 years old lol.

Lol at least Drewlo progressed to using some colour, I guess? This, the project downtown etc. When I think Drewlo I imagine these buildings which all look the exact same, no matter where in the city or in what city.

It seems like Waterloo has seen a few super-development proposals like this lately. They may not all be pretty, but I'm excited to see how they shape the city in the next 50 years.
On a side note, it looks like there's already a thread for this property: https://www.waterlooregionconnected.com/...hp?tid=510
Only problem with old threads like that is the OP can't really get updated well, so any updates get buried and become hard to find.

I suppose. Here it is. But it usually still ends up at the end. A bit easier to just let half decade old threads die IMO, then the new one propagate. Traditional forum formats like this - while I think to be ideal - are kinda annoying when it comes to chronological information, even more so when it comes to searching what can be a hundred page thread for one specific thing.
For me, in my long history using such forums, you just let the old threads die because almost nobody but a search engine or someone chronically online will notice something posted 5+ years ago. Or it's like...say you love Usenet and post to alt.binaries.startrek. Nobody is going to hunt down a thread to discuss S03E17 of Season 4 of Deep Space 9 for whatever reason, they'll just make a new post lol.

Please stop letting Drewlo destroy our cityscape. All I can think is just why. These are dated long before theyve even begun and wont finish for like 3 decades. What a disaster.

I forgot they bought this site a number of years ago. That's certainly a lot of units that will expand housing stock. That being said, like others, I fear never seeing this be completed in my lifetime.

Drewlo's project on Fallowfield was completed far faster than their downtown project. Does anyone recall what was different? Did they use precast?

I'm actually reasonably excited for this one! I lived in the Drewlo buildings on Wilson Ave for 3 years, about 10 years ago, and while it wasn't anything overly special, I was reasonably satisfied with the size of the apartment (2 bedrooms, 1000 square feet), and the fact that it had amenities like in-suite laundry, which seems to be their standard. And I'd much rather see Drewlo putting up new buildings in KW than have more Starlight rentals.
I hope that they do something with the King St Service Rd/King St intersection, because that is already a miserable road to turn left off of. They're definitely going to need to install a traffic light there, once there's a lot of extra traffic coming in and out of this area. I'd also love to see the on/off ramps lose their sweeping lanes, and restructure those connections through lighted intersections. It could help reclaim a bit of land, but mostly make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists by slowing traffic and giving pedestrians some right-of-way (instead of the current set-up, which requires pedestrians and cyclists to wait for a break in traffic to cross the ramps). That said, it's really well-placed for the future. There's the new MUT going in next to it (they have it shown on the renderings, stretching between King and Weber), and there's been rumblings and rumours about Phase 3 of the LRT extending from Conestoga Mall down King St towards University. Combine this new Drewlo neighbourhood with the 4 proposed 25-storey towers next door at 435 King St North, and it'll be a prime target for an LRT stop at Blue Springs Drive. Here's hoping that someone does something productive with the former-Chapters at 428 King next. |
