Didn't Perimeter Development buy up a bunch of blocks?

On both sides of Main. They also own the previously sheet metal covered building at the northwest corner of Main and Ainslie, but there haven't been any takers yet. I think it's going to need a lot of work.

Now to get someone to do the same in Preston...

Just to be clear, my comment about dense but not pretty was directed at Northdale, not Galt. And yes, I believe Perimeter bought 8 different buildings.

Which street are those row houses on?
Reply
Those are on Courtland between Queen and Benton.

Ahh I love those things. But I'd really like to see one owner own them all and restore them all to have a uniform look across the street front

Even better would be to see more of these built.

Anyone know the history of this building? I saw an old photo of it a while back but I can't seem to find it.

I would like to nominate Matthew Smith as Urban Photographer for Waterloo Region.

Re the question about the red brick building on Benton St between Charles and Church Sts - it was originally a church (I've forgotten which congregation) and it housed the KWAG from 1968 until it moved to the present location at CITS.  It was converted to apartments in the 1980s, I believe.

It was a Pentecostal Church - built on the birthplace of William Lyon Mackenzie King!

You never cease to amaze me with these photos. Well done.

And yes, indeed the birthplace of our former PM

Is Urban Photographer for Waterloo Region a paid position? Wink Thank you guys for the kind words! I always appreciate it.

That is very interesting to learn! I had simply thought the building had a specific use before being converted, not that the site was so rich in history!

I find the yellow bungalow with the big yard on Courtland (4th pic, above) interesting. It is quite old and I'm surprised that it has survived all these years. The chap who lives there is well into his 80s and puts an amazing amount of effort into the front gardens.

How do you put in 'hills' in your pics when there aren't any?  I've walked Queen Street often and I don't recall a steep hill from St. Mary's to downtown.  Also, in the pic Cycle and Shadows the hill up Ontario Street looks formidable.  It isn't quite that steep in real life, is it?

Try cycling up them. Smile
