Yeah a new bridge would be pricey but I wonder why they couldn't just deck over the existing part and remove the silly narrow-gauge track? Not an engineer but it doesn't seem like that part of the bridge would be any more unsafe than the part in use, it used to be double-tracked when the GRR ran trains through there.

Does anyone know why the new garbage cans for the Iron Horse Trail on Gage Ave are still wrapped up? Garbage is piling on top of them. It's been like that for over a month now, Did someone just forget to take the wrapping off them? Are all the Garbage cans wrapped still?

Update from the Region regarding the Spur Line Trail light outage:

UPDATE: This is being looked into. Staff hope to check circuit panel box today to determine if it has been vandalized again or if there is a problem with power supply.

UPDATE: Staff were out looking at the electrical box yesterday. Two locks were broken and it appears vandalism has struck again. An electrician has been called to assess the damage and repair.

I'm not totally shocked that there would be targeted vandalism here.  Residents on this street have not been polite in their disagreement with lighting the trail.  They believe their right not to need curtains on their windows trumps the right of people to use the trail.  I've been told this very explicitly.

Are those right angle gates on both sides of the rerouted Laurel trail?

Also, it looks like they put the cycle-cross elephant's feet markings along the MUTs along the road to Phillip, but not where the Laurel Trail crosses the new road.

I still think that buses are going to be backing up on to ring road and blocking the trail with this design.

Given there's a median a good foot into the trail, I don't think much thought or consideration has gone into any of it.

We're re-routing the Laurel Trail? :-(

Re-route wasn't the best word choice, more like adding a chicane (I highlighted those potential gates I mentioned earlier):
   

You can see the part of the island and bollards that stick out in to the current trail that Dan mentioned. So the new routing resolves that problem, but creates new ones:

• The increased turning radius of the corners at ring road are needed to allow the buses to make the turns but also allows vehicles to take the turns faster (should only be buses using that road though - maybe UW service vehicles too?)
  
• The potential gates on the trail, if that's what they are, would be a major inconvenience given the volume of traffic on that part of the trail; but I guess they don't want anyone darting in front of a bus as it turns.
  
• Also, would riding across the new intersection without cross-ride designation and markings be illegal?

Depends on what's used to replace and/or supplement the locks, I imagine.
