New Burger Priest Location.

What's going on here?: Divine new burger joint moving into former DQ in Waterloo

‘Commandments’ include quality, purity and simplicity

A new burger joint moving into a once popular spot for ice cream in Waterloo says it has a beef.
“We’ve got a beef with burger joints these days,” its website reads. “They use frozen patties. Or, they over-season their food. Or, they use ingredients that have no place in, or on, a burger.
“Who needs mango, pear and pine nuts? Silly.”
The Burger’s Priest, coming soon to the former Dairy Queen location at 212 King St. S., according to a local real estate representative, has a mission of keeping it simple, based on founder Shant Mardirosian’s love of fresh, classic, old-fashioned burger.
The menu is anything but ordinary, however, featuring more than 20 different signature burgers — including high, fiery, smoked and vegan varieties — as well as a secret menu with stacked varieties, featuring breaded, cheese-stuffed portabello mushroom caps. Other burgers, like the Vatican City, are smashed for succulence.
The 600-square-foot building on King Street South almost looks like a church.
Mardirosian, a California native, started the business after moving to Toronto to attend Seminary school with the hope of eventually becoming a priest.
His “Burger Redemption” began in 2010, with 350 square feet, four stools and a small meat grinder on Toronto’s Queen Street East. Since that time, more than 20 locations have been established across Ontario, including one in Guelph.
The menu also features a variety of chicken burgers, strips, hot dogs, sides such as poutine and chili, ice cream sandwiches and shakes.
