I don't think it was mentioned in this article, but in another, one of the delegates was reported to have been in tears. And while I feel that someone moved to tears is really suffering, we need to be more willing, in our culture, to confront that, with compassion and kindness, to help that person understand why their fears are overblown, to help them see that the change is not scary for any other reason that it is change, rather than indulging them, with niceness, and coddling them.
I believe this applies far and wide in our culture, well beyond this particular scenario.
That being said, it appears council is moving forward, so I think we are making the right steps.
(Yes, I found Tenille's editorial to be rather on point).
