Yeah, that's the key - I had to take a last minute trip to Europe last month and WOW air was ~$1400 less than the Air Canada flight. I used $250 of that for baggage and upgraded seats, and bought food / drinks in the airport. All told I saved over $1000 and had a better experience (mostly due to legroom). I'm sure if I had just paid the base fare and sat in an uncomfortable seat I would still have hated it.
Just checked: even booking that same flight 6-8 weeks out the cost difference is $1000. Would do the same thing without any reservations.

Why is it that neither the Region nor the airport seem to have done much, if anything, to stimulate public interest/support for a Jetlines hub at YKF? Or am I wrong about that?

Maybe they want to avoid the inevitable backlash from the people who knowingly bought houses in the existing flight path until agreements are already set in place.

They tweeted about the visit. Problem is, (especially as a tax payer funded owner) you can't really advertise/market an airline that might not even come. I'm sure we will see lots of promotion once someone signs on the dotted line.
Personally, I don't care if it's Jetlines, CanJet, NewLeaf, WestJet's new ULCC, I just want to see more traffic in YKF!

Yeah, because, when one buys a home near an airport, you shouldn't expect any airplane noise.

Yeah, because, when one buys a home near an airport, you shouldn't expect any airplane noise, unless that airport is run by a government body who is afraid of complaints as that might affect your ability to be re-elected next November... exact reason why we don't have Nolinor anymore, and never became the UPS Flight Hub 15 years ago....

I'm in the YKF flight path; I barely even notice anymore - unless it's an unfamiliar engine sound, in which case I'm running out back to see if it's a vintage plane flying over.

Interesting development:
From Jetlines Facebook page:
When I looked at their website I noticed they no longer mention Hamilton. Their previous page talked about proposed routes and hubs and mentioned Vancouver and Hamilton as hubs (with Winnipeg as a sub-hub). I guess Hamilton is still in the running but it's starting to look better for YKF.
