General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours
So here's fresh news - at this moment, someone is putting up a (slightly homemade) sign advertising a one acre development site "For Sale or Lease" on Benton St across from Arrow Lofts. "Skyline Developments' is the name on the sign - anybody ever heard of them? I wonder what has spurred the landowner to list the site now, after it has sat empty for so many years? The placement of the sign and the reference to one acre suggests that only part of the empty land is being offered up - I always assumed the entire set of lots had one owner, but perhaps not.

Based in Toronto.

115 Benton is 0.4 ha (0.98 acres), 119 and 121 are 0.1 ha each. 119 and 121 were demolished in 2006, 115 followed in 2007. Without paying for the land registry data, it's hard to know whether the ownership is the same (though it would make sense if it is).

I seriously doubt Skyline Investments is the same as Skyline Developments.

I think this might be the "Skyline" the sign is referring too... http://www.skylineonline.ca/

They have a ton of rental properties in the KWC Cambridge-Guelph area.

Just as an aside, does anyone from within Waterloo Region refer to to the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph as KWC? K-W is well known, but I seem to only come accross this KWC moniker online and largely from people outside the region.

I've never heard KWC. If I wanted to refer to KW+Cambridge, I would say "Tri-Cities".

The CMA is official Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo I think, which sounds weird. KCW is a lot easier to say than KWC, though.

I think not that, either.  The phone number on the sign is 519-721-8191, which is a Fido number.  The same number can also be found on the for-sale listing of the used-car dealership property across from the Waterloo Home Depot, and for one of the One Victoria rental units ("please call George").

Given the mobile phone, just the first name in the Kijiji listings and the misspellings on the sign, I think we can conclude that this is a private owner in spite of the high-falutin' company name on the sign.

Spelling mistakes!? And here I was looking forward to the construction of Downtown's first labrotories!

I wonder how long it will be before the folks who spend the season on that site (just up the stairs and voila!) will have the sign down for part of their roof?

I was wondering whether "and many more" might include a community garden? It would be much nicer than letting the land lay fallow!

You'd need to bring in a professional team to rid the area of needles before turning the soil!  A neighbour told me last year that he had been warned by police not to go up into the area at the back of the lot during the summer as there is a risk of booby traps!  I've tried to persuade the bylaw office that the overgrown bushes that shield the back half of the site constitute a neighbourhood security risk that should be cleaned out, but to no avail.

Eeek! All righty, then, so much for that idea!

Can someone remind me of the company that will be moving in to the old tanning building on Joseph, behind the Tannery? Was it Deloitte?

Yes, Deloitte will be the ones moving into 195 Joseph St.

It's pretty common on the radio - television - and to people south of the 401 in this great Region!

LOL! Typical KW one-mindedness lol (I'm severely kidding btw)
