Exclusivity for 2 years seems pretty inconsequential to me. If a new operator sets up, it's going to be at least that long for the service to gain enough use for it to be a potential target for competition.
And frankly, I don't think that many airlines are interested in running competitive services at YKF. They're clearly barely even interested in running non-competitive services here.

Lets be honest... only when Porter started operations did Air Canada want in the island airport, but they were blocked.
Had they been allowed to enter the island, they would of duplicated Porter flights at a cheaper price. This is Air Canada 101. [Although WestJet is now a big enough player to steal from their Playbook, like they did to the two US flights announced by New Leaf in YHM]
Personally, I'm glad Porter was given a chance to prove themselves and eventually be the successful company they are today.

Seems like there could be competition for exclusive rights to YKF-YXX.

New York and Chicago would be nice. Seattle would be a given if we get even a small part of the Amazon campus.

Looks like they're planning to save the beacon. Kind of glad to see that.
