I think he imagines them as the pinko bike riders whose useless lanes are clogging up his downtown streets. /s

So people who had a drivers license but no car (plenty of us around) didn't save anything, and the more cars you owned, the more you saved.

But I expect nothing less from DoFo and his folk. I don't even think it's intentional. I don't think it's even occurred to him that there are people with a drivers license who don't own a car.

Does he even know there are people at all who don’t own a car?

To most drivers in Ontario, anyone not driving is just a temporarily-embarrassed SUV owner

Just a random reminder/rant that we do NOT need differing summer and winter schedules anymore. This region is now roughly 650'000 people, a lot of which rely on transit. There is absolutely no reason why we should continue to do this. The majority of people don't suddenly stop working or going to school less certain times of the year.

You are operating under the misguided assumption that the government is supposed to provide reliable, boring, dependable services... It's actually supposed to just be a tool for reducing costs in the weirdest and least effective ways.

Did the region contract a new company to clear bus stops this year? I've noticed a lot of the snow removal this year is extremely half assed. The picture below is from a few days ago, but I noticed a lot of bus stops like this while out for a walk today. They're basically just driving the plow on an angle, removing snow from maybe 1/3rd of the stop and then leaving the rest. If this is all they're doing, they might as well just save our tax dollars and do nothing. What a joke.

I had to go to Freeport for a medical appointment on Thursday. I took a taxi there, since the sidewalk to the bus stop was impassible. I took the GRT home. The sidewalks at the Fairway bus terminal were not cleared, forcing me to walk on the road with my walker to get to the ION. I got off the ION at Kitchener Market Station and had to get over a mound of snow to get onto the bus. My stop on Stirling was cleared, but I fell trying to get over the snow at the corner of Mill. If it wasn't for my medical appointment, I would have stayed home.

This was one of the main reasons we left the city. I spent years fighting this...I was...frankly angry with council. I was frustrated over biking infra...this made me angry.

Many on council pretend passionately that this isn't a problem, and that the city doing the clearing would be worse.

I could not deal with that level of lies and dishonesty...and I cannot make it out to be anything other than that.

Combined with the fact that I also literally could not get around with my daughter in her stroller without a second person to carry her over snow banks...and I was done, we were moving.

You have my sympathy...I hate that you have to deal with this situation...and those who have the power to change it, but choose to perpetuate it anyway...who refuse to even acknowledge it...they're bad people...I have nothing nice to say about them.

Hi,

It certainly sucks when we get a real winter for people like yourself who rely on walking.  If you need a ride sometime and conditions aren't favorable, reach out and DM me.  I would be happy to help if I am not at work and  available to give you a lift.

I have taxi discount tickets which I can use if necessary, but I prefer the bus which is free. Anyhow, I hope that my legs will be back to normal by summer so I can bike again. I miss biking.

Well, it is rather disconcerting to end up in hospital because you suddenly can no longer walk. So, I need to be positive.

From Reddit: GRT Pay, a new app/site for mobile fare payments. Passes will continue to be restricted to EasyGO. GRT is doing some low key advertising of this service at bus stations, but the site and app are not functional yet.

It will have an option within the popular app Transit as well, but that hasn't launched yet either.

I'm sorry, what?

I’ve used this system in Cleveland. It’s just a QR code that can be scanned to pay. They do seem to have an expiry. They are really meant for single rides instead of using cash.
This is far more cumbersome than using a tap to pay technology like presto or open payments. They operator had trouble scanning my phone to accept my ticket and doing a purchase by having to enter credit card details every single time was terrible. Hopefully ours is at least integrated with a system that allows for card storage.
