ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
CKCO news at noon reported on the broken down car and subsequent traffic tie-up with their usual anti-LRT slant.

Trying to reconcile with myself why I even watch their news at all anymore. It certainly isn't for their reporting of local sports.

Lol.  HALF AN HOUR!!!!!!!

Edit: Canard, you made it on the news!  Although I noticed they didn't mention what you were saying.

Let's say there were 20 cars stuck for 30 minutes (which I think is overstating it).  That's a 600 minute car-delay.  That's barely a major 'break down delay', let alone construction / congestion / rubber necking / etc. delay for this area.

I believe BobMcBob called it. http://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId...tPageNum=1

Hmm? No, I'm not anywhere in that clip, other than some of my tweets...

Apparently they're working on Charles and Queen. I wonder if they will fix the nonsense sidewalk. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/kitch...-1.4095332

Quote:The intersection of Queen and Charles streets will be closed for the next three weeks, as Grandlinq puts the finishing touches on the Ion LRT tracks and makes minor repairs

Three weeks! Yeah, that definitely sounds like it could be fixing the corner.

Per a discussion on the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/81680629...804124051/), it will be fixed. The process will involve a different grade for the storefronts than from the through traffic.

I haven't noticed an anti-LRT slant on CKCO. The piece seems to be reporting what happened around a story of interest.

I had wondered if there was concern about getting rid of the awkward and non-accessible corner there, that doing so would mean drivers could not use the LRT as a turning lane and turn exceedingly wide, lest they run the risk of clipping a raised redesigned corner. I'm glad/hopeful that they've decided that cars can figure out how to execute a better turn, especially with an extra lanewidth to work with due to the rapidway.

Where can we see the revised design?

Don't know; the Facebook poster simply said that he had seen it.

The current conditions:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Sidewalks at <a href="https://twitter.com/rideIONrt">@rideIONrt</a> corners.<br>Who poured it better?<br>(Charles St on left, Duke St on right) <a href="https://t.co/UMMnbgoaTl">pic.twitter.com/UMMnbgoaTl</a></p>&mdash; Mark Jackson-Brown (@Markster3000) <a href="https://twitter.com/Markster3000/status/777627993107759104">September 18, 2016</a></blockquote>

Considering that the pole blocks a significant chunk of the sidewalk, it's not entirely absurd to imagine a ramp up to the businesses tucked partially behind it.

I have found that most, if not all of their stories pertaining to LRT have had a negative, we-told-you-so spin to them. Even when the first LRV arrived their focus was more on the lateness of the arrival rather than being about the good news of it, or even remaining neutral (which is what news reporting should be trying to do).

I note much more positivity/neutrality in LRT related stories on the local CBC news site than I do from either CKCO on-air news or the local CTV news site.

As an LRT supporter I am of course biased and would prefer a positive slant on the part of local news, but I would be quite satisfied with an objective and neutral approach.
