It looks like the photographer was /not/ standing behind the yellow line. Tsk.

Nice jab, but “The photographer” was actually standing on the designated crossing, along with everyone else walking to and from the platform. Rail Safety is paramount to me, unlike those who I saw actually walking on the rubber matting of the tracks just to get a “better shot”.

I've noticed now that there are regular trains out and about the tracks are starting to get their shine back!

Managed to stop by the open house at UW today where 509 was on hand.

I look forward to the first photos that show the new panel (on the right) finally installed.

It's amazing what a story there is behind that little square, and just how much trouble it has caused between so many parties.

Uh, it’s parked?

What next, will I be chastised for operating the points in front of the Redpath Sugar Refinery in Toronto when I was there with my kid?

I was being facetious. Text doesn't really do a good job of conveying tone or intent.

Wait, you threw a railway switch yourself? That’s like... jail time.

Plot twist: the tracks were abandoned, no longer part of the active network, and obviously so (I think there were only 100m or so of track still there, with no connection at all to active tracks, and no engines or cars on the isolated piece of track). So, as I’ve been trying to explain for months now, everything has a context. Safety isn’t just a matter of blindly following rules. Obviously, “don’t mess with switches” is a good rule, but even it has exceptions.

OK, thanks, that makes sense. Good one! Tongue Big Grin

You should write and article or editorial on the issue; I am sure that one of the local papers or even Toronto papers would be interested in your perspective. You have changed my view on the matter.

I'd love to, but only about 30% of the story is public... some of it will shake out in the coming months and years, I'm sure.

As for a book, though - hold that thought... Big Grin
