Where did the "Greater Golden Horseshoe" come from? Is that a Provincial Designation, or something a Wiki editor made up?

Using Wiki alone, we are listed as Southwestern Ontario. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwestern_Ontario

(Not trying to be difficult, just legitimately curious where the current Provincial government pictures us.)

They dont picture us, Thats why they are dragging their heals on hwy 7, thats why they have reduced their commitment to real electrified regular train service. Thats why they are delaying the expansion of 401. They barely know we exist... We need to do more to start lobbying the government and advocating for our fair share of projects and consideration.

No. Sometimes they consider us part of the "Greater Golden Horseshoe", but that isn't used very often. In other documents we're counted as part of SWO. It flops back and forth.

I think the Greater Golden Horseshoe first emerged as a term in the 2001 Census as a so-called census region. There wasn't a rigorous definition of what constituted a census region, so it was a bit pointless in my opinion, and Statistics Canada has since abandoned the concept.

Since 2004, it's now basically codified in law, though, as part of the Greater Golden Horseshoe Growth Plan area under the Places to Grow Act.

So nothing new to report? No time commitments? Perfect. Let schedule the next big announcement for this project in a few more years so that government can pat themselves on the back too!

Well, this is good news for the economy. This highway between Kitchener and Guelph should have been done a long, long time ago. Hopefully the bidding will go quickly so we have the final numbers. I am guessing though that it won’t start until next spring at earliest.

And — as I said before, this funding announcement comes less than 2 years before the next election. So....that part was predictable.
