Highway 7 - Kitchener to Guelph
But the highway from Kitchener to Guelph is? I'm confused.

In the document, the highway from Kitchener to Guelph is under "improve connections between Ontario’s southwest and markets to the east", and not in Southwestern Ontario itself.

Oh, OK, Thank you.

Does the Province consider us part of the GTA now?

I know we're part of the "Greater Golden Horseshoe". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Horseshoe

So short answer is yes.

Where did the "Greater Golden Horseshoe" come from? Is that a Provincial Designation, or something a Wiki editor made up?

Using Wiki alone, we are listed as Southwestern Ontario. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwestern_Ontario

(Not trying to be difficult, just legitimately curious where the current Provincial government pictures us.)

They dont picture us, Thats why they are dragging their heals on hwy 7, thats why they have reduced their commitment to real electrified regular train service. Thats why they are delaying the expansion of 401. They barely know we exist... We need to do more to start lobbying the government and advocating for our fair share of projects and consideration.

No. Sometimes they consider us part of the "Greater Golden Horseshoe", but that isn't used very often. In other documents we're counted as part of SWO. It flops back and forth.

I know for Ministry of Finance purposes, we are considered part of Central Ontario, but I don't know if that extends to all departments or just them.

I think the Greater Golden Horseshoe first emerged as a term in the 2001 Census as a so-called census region. There wasn't a rigorous definition of what constituted a census region, so it was a bit pointless in my opinion, and Statistics Canada has since abandoned the concept.

Since 2004, it's now basically codified in law, though, as part of the Greater Golden Horseshoe Growth Plan area under the Places to Grow Act.

"Golden Horseshoe" as a term has been around since the 1950s when satellite pictures made it apparent, but "Greater Golden Horseshoe" wasn;t coined until 2004 in teh Places to Grow act.

Highway 7 expansion gets funding commitment from province

Quote:The proposed 18-kilometre expansion would include seven interchanges, including a connection between Highway 7 and Highway 85, and a new crossing over the Grand River.

18 KM of highway, no transit, no cycling infra....so climate change is just the new normal.

It pisses me off that nobody even mentions this....

So nothing new to report? No time commitments? Perfect. Let schedule the next big announcement for this project in a few more years so that government can pat themselves on the back too!

Well, this is good news for the economy. This highway between Kitchener and Guelph should have been done a long, long time ago. Hopefully the bidding will go quickly so we have the final numbers. I am guessing though that it won’t start until next spring at earliest.

And — as I said before, this funding announcement comes less than 2 years before the next election. So....that part was predictable.
