General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours

I think the biggest problem isn't stucco as the raw material as such, it's the dull and unimaginative use of stucco.  You can do very nice stucco buildings and very ugly ones, like with any other material.

We visited Alhambra last year ... an absolutely fantastic place.  And apart from that, it was impressive that (most of) the stucco has lasted the better part of a millenium.

402 and 404 Ottawa St have been demolished. I was hoping since this is quite close to the Mill St LRT it was going to be developed high density residential.

Weber Street apartment building under fire watch

It was beautiful inside when I was in a unit 10+ years ago, it's a shame that drug policy in this country leads to this kinds of situations.

Not sure that it is drug policy that is to blame in this instance (however, I do agree they could use some 'updating').

I put the blame on the Landlord/management for something like this.  There are other buildings that operate nicely around there.

Normally I'm not into rashly labelling people "speculator," but this sounds frankly pretty disguisting. Keeping the building 75% vacant means there was never any real chance for residents to have their building improved, and the real victims are those people who are just a side benefit income stream until the land appreciates enough to sell.

Terry Good has a bit of history in this area.  He's from a good, local family but he's been in the news in the past.

Carter testified he systematically carried out the attack in revenge against Good for allegedly setting him up in a botched drug deal ten years earlier.


Justice Reilly based his decision largely on evidence that showed even though Carter's shots were fired at close range, they did not strike Good in areas which would have proved fatal. Recent testimony from a ballistics expert could not prove how accurately Carter had aimed. Nevertheless, Good suffered substantial life-threatening injuries leading to the loss of his spleen and a kidney.



The judge was careful not to diminish Carter's actions. He said if Good had died, there would be "overwhelming evidence" for a first-degree murder charge, and that the choice of a sawed-off shotgun suggests an intent to kill. He had observed Carter as, "not a man to be restricted by pangs of conscience," and further stated, "at no time did he attempt to elicit the sympathy of the court."

I think I once met Terry Good and looked at one of his apartments. I remember going to a home on Mount Hope St. and the landlord sending us off with a young guy to go check out an apartment over near Erb and Weber. This would have been around 1999. We took a pass on the place, and the whole interaction felt a little skeezy.

Yep. I just linked him to 154 Erb E, which I think is the apartment in question.
