The COVID-19 pandemic

Bad idea to threaten the ones doing the tests, they can make it very painful when it comes time to get swabbed.

Pretty sad CTV thread twitter thread on this one.

I mean, it's a frustrating situation, and I can understand people's anger, but too many seem to see little problem directing that anger on healthcare workers.  Others are explicitly calling healthcare workers liars and saying it never happened.

What is wrong with our society.

Waterloo Region looks rather bad on the provincial reporting, thanks in part to the timing of the reports.

327 of 409 new cases in the GTA; some work is needed there, to be sure.

The Waterloo Region numbers look better after eight straight days of double digits, but it's just one day. At the Ontario level, I am somewhat comforted that the new case counts seem to have stabilized around 400 rather than continuing to grow exponentially. If that continues, it provides a base for us to try to then start to get the new infection numbers down. Still, we're at almost 4,000 active cases, four times where we were in early August.

Thanks for compiling these numbers on a regular basis.  Much appreciated.

More than anything, I hope this sends a message to people that we are not out of the woods yet, and they need to behave themselves.

Indeed. I have always thought of her as a milquetoast centrist politician, but this gave me a strong negative impression of her, she's not a leader.

In other news, while Octoberfesters are welcome to come into our city and to shotskiis till they're stumbling, students are again told to stay home for any student event.

Not only GTA and Ottawa now, but the situation in Peel is getting worse: that's over 25% of the total new cases in Ontario.

At this rate we’re only a couple of weeks away from having the most cases ever.

Hard to say what effects the previous changes have, but unless they have a major effect, we're pretty close to guaranteed achieving records, it will take at minimum 2-3 weeks for new policies to start affecting case counts.

This is why we shut down so quickly in March, it's sad to see we've forgotten those lessons.
