The COVID-19 pandemic
105 local cases today as per provincial reporting. Is this the first time we broke 100?

I am so confused about the reporting, as I thought the province was one day behind the region, so our yesterday number reported by Public Health (74) would have been in todays Ontario report.

But yeah, 105 might be a new high. We're getting dangerously close to another lockdown. I hope not. But we'll see.

What's not going to help the region too much is people coming from Peel and Toronto to do their Christmas shopping. Already the numbers in Guelph and Hamilton are looking bad, same with Halton. And the people from Brampton, which is probably the hardest hit city in North America, have no clue on how to wear a mask. YOUR CHIN IS NOT WHERE YOU PLACE YOUR MASK!!!

Today there are 1'707 reported new cases in Ontario with 193 people now in ICUs. CBC has a headline (although not a story itself) that says "Province adding intensive care beds as a record high 1,746 new COVID-19 cases reported yesterday". I guess we're starting to put enough pressure on the ICUs in the province if we're scrambling to add more ICU beds.

Locally, public health has gone after the Mennonite community due to the spike in community transmission taking place there. Specifically, they're finding old order Mennonite groups to be the primary cause as they are not listening to public health rules. Dr. Wang has ordered schools and churches closed: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener...-1.5822247

Never thought I'd envy London, Ontario but yeah they're doing alright. I'd be great if the province bothered to implement any significant form of contact tracing so we could determine how and why the virus is spreading so fast in certain areas, but unfortunately Doug Ford went full Trump over the last 2-3 months and we are now starting to losing control of this.

Doug Ford is many things, including many bad things that make him a terrible choice for Premier, but full Trump is not one of them.

Even if he had tried, Trump keeps re-defining what “full Trump” means. I don’t think anybody else has the talent to keep up.

There are 1'824 new cases in Ontario today as well as 14 more deaths. We've also surpassed the threshold of patients in ICUs with 203 people in severe condition. Previously, they projected that once 150 ICU beds have been occupied, they may have to begin cancelling other surgeries and admission: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/c...-1.5826565

For some more optimistic news, Health Canada is expecting to approve the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine BNT162b2 in 7 to 10 days: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/thecurrent/the-...-1.5826508
