The COVID-19 pandemic

Waterloo Region reported 27 new cases for today (13.1% of the active cases) and zero more for yesterday for 26; 173 new cases for the week (+3 from yesterday and -73 from last week), averaging 9.7% of active cases. 206 active cases, -83 in the last seven days.

Ontario reported 177 new cases today with a seven-day average of 153 (+2). 166 recoveries and six deaths translated to a increase of five active cases and a new total of 1,378. -214 active cases for the week and 43 deaths (six per day). 14,805 tests with a positivity rate of 1.20%. The positivity rate is averaging 0.73% for the past seven days, compared to 0.88% for the preceding seven. 107 patients in ICU (-5 today, -48 for the week) with COVID-19.

New case variants reported today (these are substantially delayed so they do not match the new case numbers):
  • Alpha (B.1.1.7): 6
  • Beta (B.1.351): 1
  • Delta (B.1.617): 36 (64% of variants over the past 10 days)

Ontario reported 130 new cases today with a seven-day average of 155 (+2). 153 recoveries and zero deaths translated to a decrease of 23 active cases and a new total of 1,355. -255 active cases for the week and 43 deaths (six per day). 11,567 tests with a positivity rate of 1.12%. The positivity rate is averaging 0.79% for the past seven days, compared to 0.80% for the preceding seven. 107 patients in ICU (+0 today, -48 for the week) with COVID-19.

Waterloo Region reported 12 new cases for today (6.0% of the active cases) and zero more for yesterday for 22; 151 new cases for the week (-16 from yesterday and -107 from last week), averaging 9.3% of active cases. 174 active cases, -114 in the last seven days.

An average of 767 test/day for the past 7 days, the lowest yet. However, in spite of the reduced testing, the positivity rate still dropped to 2.81% from 3.26% the week prior.

5,172 doses of vaccine administered, with a seven-day average at 6,161 (previous week was 9,654). 66.24% of total regional population vaccinated (+0.36% today, +0.88% from 7 days ago), 49.07% fully vaccinated (+0.74% today, +6.16% from 7 days ago). 

Ontario reported 127 new cases today with a seven-day average of 152 (-3). 126 recoveries and one death translated to a decrease of a single active cases and a new total of 1,354. -194 active cases for the week and 38 deaths (five per day). 13,586 tests with a positivity rate of 0.93%. The positivity rate is averaging 0.80% for the past seven days, compared to 0.77% for the preceding seven. 106 patients in ICU (-1 today, -39 for the week) with COVID-19.

Ontario reported 135 new cases today with a seven-day average of 150 (-2). 151 recoveries and four deaths translated to a decrease of 20 active cases and a new total of 1,334. -144 active cases for the week and 35 deaths (five per day). 20,750 tests with a positivity rate of 0.65%. The positivity rate is averaging 0.82% for the past seven days, compared to 0.74% for the preceding seven (note, however, that the test volume is down more than 10%). 112 patients in ICU (+6 today, -21 for the week) with COVID-19.

Which is interesting, because if the vaccine works like they claim, one shouldn’t have to worry about getting sick (or at least, ‘really sick’).

Second part of that, how does one know if one has been vaccinated? Like, are people going to start asking? Just saying that that is a personal question. Sort of like how you wouldn’t go up to someone asking when the last time they had sex with their spouse or SO.

I have zero problem asking. It isn't a personal question. It's a question that affects my health.

As for why. I have an unvaccinated child and high risk relatives.  This is still a danger to them. And I am also high risk. And frankly, I'm not interested in spending time with folks who won't vaccinate.
