Cycling in Waterloo Region
That's a good point, Dan. I'll complain next summer if no improvements are made, but will wait until then.

I mean, complain all you like, I know I do plenty. But once in a while I try to put it in perspective.

FWIW, it sounds like the pallets will move before winter, which is a good thing. But apparently the intersections won't change before next summer, which is frankly, quite surprising. I'm amazed any engineer would tolerate that situation, there's basically zero traffic controls for the conflict between right turning vehicles and all bicycle movements. It really highlights how little road engineers understand about bike lanes. I think next summer it will get bike signals, I'm just amazed they don't have them now.

But yeah, I gotta try and stay positive too...I probably won't get run over in that time.

And is Sydney St/Delta St part of Phase 2, then? The paving there is not done yet.

Phase 2 of what?

AFAIK they are separate projects not part of any larger work. I'm surprised they are not paved, but I think there is some underground works going on there as well.

Debbie's tweet (above) referred to phase 1 of the cycling grid.

Sydney St looks complete except for paving the MUT and a bit of work on the curbs. Delta St was dug up in a big way but digging and storm sewers appear complete. No recent action on turning the mudpile into a trail, though. (The sign does still indicate 2021 completion.)

Oh...I see.

I believe they are separate projects, funded separately--Delta/Sydney I think is funded as a utility project. But yes, asphalting does appear to be significantly delayed for many projects. I'm not sure why.

That being said, they probably still have a few weeks to work on it before the end of season...I know Water St. still has paving work to be done and that is expected this year.

(And to answer their question, no the pallets remain on Joseph St., the bike lane is only "open" from Ontario. But I have heard that they will be removed before winter.)

As of yesterday afternoon, even the curbs on Water St were not complete yet, so it does seem that Debbie's victory pronouncement is a bit premature.

The suggestion is that they will be removed before winter to facilitate winter maintenance.

Whether that actually happens we shall see.

Yes, there are a few more things to be added. But it's nice that it is being called "officially" open (between Victoria and Ontario anyway).

Are the bricks part of this project?

Haul down some plywood boards and you could make a pretty cool jump, making them part of the project that way.

Yes, I believe they will be used on Queen St. for a retaining wall.
