What a joke... just worse and worse with each submission. The original design was actually quite decent, but this is just a disaster. And in classic Waterloo fashion I bet it will be approved in its worst form.

The City of Waterloo approved some land swaps to support the construction of a tower on the parcel of land that includes the former Angie's Kitchen. Part of the deal involved the City selling a parcel to the developer with the option for the City of buy the parcel back should the tower not be built. Hopefully, the City gets it back for the price they sold it for and not a higher price. There were other parts to the deal as well.

I actually don't think the new submission is all that bad. The colour scheme is better than the original submission.

More monochrome precast? Impressive! We definitely have nothing else like this in the region. Truly groundbreaking innovation here. I urge the Pritzker jury to give Reema Masri the next Pritzker Architectural Prize as soon as possible.

Fully disagree... we don't need more bland grey crap here. The purple and yellow in the original design were very nicely incorporated. Reminded me of something by Mexican architects Legorreta + Legorreta: modern and colourful. For some reason we are very scared of colour here, and unfortunately we don't have the best examples of colourful facades in the region.

It's mostly in the material, not the colour alone. If all you do is slap colour rather than white/grey/black paint on precast panels, you end up with Kim Jong Un aesthetics. It's ideal to use colour combined with creative façade design and unique material choices.

Change to proposed 30-storey highrise follows public feedback.
Three versions of the highrise have been placed before Waterloo City Hall since 2023.
The latest includes 54 apartments with three bedrooms (none were initially proposed), 86 apartments with two bedrooms (26 were initially proposed) and 91 studio or one-bedroom units (120 were initially proposed).
